Here’s what you should know.

1. With a possible repeal looming, the AGA opposes such an action without a “viable, equitable replacement,” already in place.

2. The AGA wants coverage for ACA beneficiaries uninterrupted through any appeal process and wants to see any replacement legislation to contain the following:

  • Patient access to and coverage of specialty care.
  • Patient access to and coverage of evidence-based preventive screenings without cost-sharing.
  • Insurers cannot discriminate because of a pre-existing condition.
  • Insurers cannot discriminate based on gender.
  • Parents should be allowed to keep their children on their plans until they are 26-years-old.
  • A ban on annual and lifetime caps.

3. As an organization, the AGA said “We are concerned that a repeal without a replacement in place will result in millions of patients being uninsured and millions of dollars in uncompensated care to providers, like gastroenterologists. “

4. The AGA believes the legislature should build on the ACA’s successful portions for the patients in need of coverage.
