Mr. Vandeveer is raising awareness for colonoscopies in memory of his late wife, Linda Vandeveer.

Mrs. Vandeveer was 67 years old when she died from cancer. During his final days, she asked Mr. Vandeveer to get screened.

He told WANE, “When she finally got the colonoscopy it was too late, so we want to make sure that other people are aware of how simple the process is. The procedure is so minimal, but it can impact your life.”

Mr. Vandeveer said if his wife had a colonoscopy earlier, physicians may have caught the cancer. But now, Mr. Vandeveer continues the family’s annual tradition of being bell ringers with the added twist dedicated to his late wife.

“We’ve had so many people who have committed or who have already done colonoscopies in honor of Linda,” He said to WANE. “This is just amazing. I’m flabbergasted”
