1. State certification of a surgery center means the facility has passed an inspection and has met the same high standards required of hospitals. In 2009, 72 percent of ASCs were state certified; 28 percent were not.
2. In 2009, 75 percent of ASCs were Medicare certified.
3. As of Aug. 2009, 12 percent of ASCs were part of an integrated health network, up one percentage point from 2008.
4. As of Aug. 2009, 35 percent of ASCs are affiliated with a multi-facility chain, with 65 percent operating independently.
