Here’s what you need to know:

1. University of British Columbia researchers prevented bacteria from forming abscesses in mice, by combining DJK-5 with various antibiotics.

2. The bacteria in abscesses grow due to their stress response, which DJK-5 disrupts and heals.

3. This finding is noteworthy for healthcare providers, since abscesses lead to 3.2 million emergency room visits each year. At present, the only treatment is cutting out and draining the infected tissue, since antibiotics alone do not work to treat the problem.
