Here are five points:
1. NIH’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases is funding the AGA Fecal Microbiota Transplantation National Registry launch.
2. The registry will prospectively enroll patients who undergo FMT at sites throughout the country.
3. The registry will focus on collecting information on FMT methodology, FMT indication and baseline data on donors and recipients.
4. Researchers will follow up with FMT patients at regular intervals for up to 10 years to collect reported adverse events and pre-defined outcomes of effectiveness.
5. Colleen Kelly, MD, Loren Laine, MD, and Gary D. Wu, MD, will lead the registry as principal investigators. They all serve on the AGA Center for Gut Microbiome Research and Education’s scientific advisory board.
