Dr. Johnson, the former owner of medical clinics throughout the South Sound area of Washington, fled the country in Jan. 2009 following a search of his facilities by government agents. Dr. Johnson traveled to Madagascar and was recently extradited after officials there learned of the warrant for his arrest and found him with an expired passport, according to the report.
The government alleges Dr. Johnson submitted false claims to the state’s Medicaid program for services he did not provide. He is also accused of dispensing prescription drugs to patients for cash without examining the patients and filing false tax returns from 2005-2007.
Dr. Johnson faces up to five years in prison of each count of healthcare fraud and three years in prison for filing false tax returns.
Dr. Johnson’s mother, who served as the business manager of the clinics, was arrested and charged in October for her involvement in the scheme.
