Hillary still supports ACA, despite increasing premiums — 5 things to know

Hillary Clinton faces an uphill battle to promote the Affordable Care Act, as the premiums are anticipated to starkly increase in 2017, according to The Hill.

Here are five things to know:

1. Republicans are using the ACA increasing premiums to their advantage in the election year, pointing to the program’s flaws.

2. Ms. Clinton continues to support the ACA, although she has noted that the program includes some costly aspects.

3. She specifically said the ACA’s out-of-pocket costs, co-pays, deductibles and premiums should be reviewed.

4. Ms. Clinton continues to encourage the “public option,” which is a government-run health plan that would serve as an alternative to boost competition.

5. She proposes lowering the eligible age of Medicare to 50 or 55.
