Here are five insights:
1. The program includes the involvement of long-term care experts, clinicians, infectious disease specialists and the CDC.
2. Training includes competencies in disinfection, hand hygiene, device sterilization, disease surveillance and outbreak containment.
3. Those certified under the new program are eligible to use the designation of Infection Preventionist-Board Certified (IP-BC).
4. The certification program is open to all but many of the materials are free for NADON/LTC members.
5. NADON/LTC is an advocate and educational organization for directors of nursing, assistant directors of nursing and registered nurses in long-term care.
