New Missouri Law Will Penalize Insurers That Take More Than 45 Days to Pay Claims

A new Missouri law will impose financial penalties on insurers in the state that take more than 45 days to pay claims to healthcare providers, according to a report by Bloomberg Business Week.

The penalty is set at 1 percent of the claim per day late and is intended to speed claims payment and prevent insurers from suspending claims, rather than approving or denying them, according to the report.

More than 25 percent of insurance claims at hospitals in the state are outstanding after 90 days, according to the report.
