Walmart.com exposes 5k customers’ personal information — 5 notes

Wal-Mart confirmed they exposed nearly 5,000 customers’ personal information between Feb. 15 and Feb. 18, according to Internet Retailer.

Here are five notes:

1. Personal data and medical records were visible on the site when consumers logged onto Walmart.com’s pharmacy pages.

2. The compromise was due to coding errors when the retailer changed servers.

3. Debit card, credit card or Social Security information was not visible on the pages.

4. Walmart.com said it quickly notified the consumers whose information was exposed.

5. A spokesperson said, “A software coding error for a 72-hour period from Feb. 15 to 18 affected a limited group of online pharmacy customers.”
