Northern Minn. hospitals report 19 adverse events, including sexual assault — 5 things to know

A Minnesota Department of Health listed 19 adverse events during a 12-month period in northern Minnesotan hospitals, one of which was the sexual assault of a patient, according to Duluth News Tribune.

Here are five things to know:

1. None of the events resulted in moralities, a first in the last five years for the region’s hospitals.

2. Of the 19 events, 10 resulted in serious injuries.

3. Across the state, hospitals reported 316 adverse events, 16 of which resulted in death.

4. The sexual assault occurred at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth. Gary Peterson, MD, CMO, said the assault did not result in serious injury but declined to report other details.

5. During the 12-month period, St. Luke’s reported three adverse events.
