Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas Implements New Payment Policy for OON ASCs

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas has implemented a new payment policy for out-of-network ASCs in which the insurer will send the entire reimbursement for services at OON facilities directly to the patient. Patients will then be responsible for sending payment for services to the ASC, according to the Texas Ambulatory Surgery Center Society

Although Texas has assignment of benefits laws, BCBSTX may be exempt because it is set up as a hospital service corporation, according to the TASCS.

The payment change is scheduled to go into effect May 24.
