GI physician leader to know: Dr. Brant Oelschlager of University of Washington Medicine

Brant Kurt Oelschlager, MD, is the chief of the division of general surgery at University of Washington Medicine in Seattle, and he is the Byers Endowed Professor in Esophageal Research at UW School of Medicine. He is also director for the surgical specialties at the Center for Esophageal & Gastric Surgery and a professor of surgery at UW Medicine.

Dr. Oelschlager focuses on the treatment of esophageal and other gastrointestinal diseases including videoendoscopic surgery, minimally invasive surgery and paraesophageal hiatal hernia surgery. His research interests include esophageal diseases such as gastroesophageal reflux, Barrett’s esophagus, esophageal cancer and achalasia. He is widely published in a number of professional journals.

Dr. Oelschlager earned his medical degree at University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill. He completed his residency and additional training at the UW School of Medicine.
