Here are five things to know about the ASC:
1. The center was originally proposed by eight surgeons and Oneida (N.Y.) Healthcare Center to focus on orthopedic surgery.
2. The surgery center faced opposition from Rome Memorial Hospital, which opposed adding surgical suites to the area.
3. The New York State Department of Health approved a certificate of need for the ASC application project in May 2014.
4. The center was expected to cost $5.2 million at the time it received the CON, but only a few months later was projected to cost $7.5 million.
5. The ASC received an incentive package from the Oneida County Industrial Development Agency offering a partial property tax abatement for five years and sales tax and mortgage recording tax exemptions in August 2014.
