GI physician leader to know: Dr. Terrence Barrett of UK HealthCare

Terrence A. Barrett, MD, is chief of the division of digestive diseases and nutrition at UK HealthCare in Lexington. He previously served on staff at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.

Dr. Barrett’s clinical interests include chromoendoscopy and complex inflammatory bowel disease. He has received a number of research grants from the National Institutes of Health and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America. He is also a part of an NCI clinical trial for patients with colitis-induced dysplasia. His work has been published in journals such as Transplantation, Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and The American Journal of Pathology.

Dr. Barrett earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He completed his residency at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital in Chicago. He also completed fellowships in gastroenterology, IBD and immunology at the University of Chicago.
