GI physician leader to know: Dr. Eric Esrailian of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA

Eric Esrailian, MD, MPH, is the co-chief of the division of digestive diseases at the David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California Los Angeles. He is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. He served on the Medical Board of California from 2010 to 2011 after being appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Dr. Esrailian’s clinical interests include gastrointestinal endoscopy, inflammatory bowel diseases, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, hemostasis, polypectomy, reflux, ulcer disease and functional gastrointestinal diseases. He also focuses on the development of biomedical innovations, medical education and initiatives towards patient-centered care. In 2012, the UCLA School of Medicine awarded him the Lincy Foundation Chair in Clinical Gastroenterology.

Dr. Esrailian earned his medical degree at Loma Linda (Calif.) University School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency at USC University Hospital in Los Angeles. He completed his gastroenterology fellowship at the UCLA School of Medicine, where he also obtained a Masters degree in public health.
