The paper, published in the April issue of Surgical Endoscopy, offers suggestions as to how to manage necessary relationships between medical associations and the device industry.

Daniel Smith, MD, SAGES president and professor and chair of the Mayo School of Medicine, has identified these relationships as a top priority for the organization. In February, SAGES preceded the white paper with an editorial noting that transparent relationships between medical associations and the device industry improve outcomes and that it is important to have the device industry involved in the training of surgeons.
