Eye surgery centers improve efficiency with online patient registration

AmSurg ophthalmology centers transitioned to online patient registration earlier this year, which has made a positive impact on the centers.

Here are five key notes about the program:

1. The online patent registration allows patients to fill out histories, sign release forms digitally, customize information, track which patients submit information and update history if a second procedure is necessary.

2. The Eye Surgery Center in Silver Spring, Md., has around 85 percent of patients going online to fill out their information, which Center Leader Georgia Voss said is a “huge time saver.”

3. When patients don’t register themselves, a nurse calls the patients and enters in the information for them.

4. The center has a computer available for patients who don’t otherwise have access to a computer. “It’s hard work, but we believe it helps us give the best possible patient care,” says Ms. Voss.

5. AmSurg centers can earn the Cataract Innovator status by using the program. AmSurg outpatient eye surgery center physicians perform more than 100,000 procedures annually.
