Dr. David Perlmutter named Washington University School of Medicine dean

David Perlmutter, MD, has been named dean of the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, according to a St. Louis Business Journal report.

Dr. Perlmutter will assume his new position on Dec. 1. He is taking over for Larry Shapiro, MD, who has been dean for 12 years.

Dr. Perlmutter currently serves as a professor and the Vira I. Heinz Endowed Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

He led the gastroenterology and nutrition divisions at Washington University School of Medicine and St. Louis Children’s Hospital before he left for the University of Pittsburgh in 2001, according to the report.
