The president’s fiscal year 2016 budget includes investments, including $133 million in new funding, to increase efforts to reduce opioid misuse and abuse. The initiative will focus on the following three areas:
1. Providing training and educational resources to assist health professionals in making informed prescribing decisions.
2. Increasing use of naloxone.
3. Expanding the use of medication-assisted treatment, which includes counseling and behavioral therapies.
