“We will be thinking about doctor-less healthcare. That’s a radical statement. I don’t mean it quite the way I say it, but I want to give you the sense of how dramatic this is,” said UPMC CEO Jeffrey Romoff, reported by CBS Pittsburgh. “The majority of healthcare that everybody receives will be accessible on their handheld devices.”
The new alliance seems to be putting a large emphasis on mobile devices and applications on smartphones, where questions can be asked to a cloud database or a search engine.
With the emphasis on technology, the Pittsburgh Health Data Alliance also addressed security concerns, and CBS is also reporting the new technology may even strengthen HIPAA laws.
