GI physician leader to know: Dr. J. Sumner Bell of Gastroenterology Ltd. of Virginia Beach

J. Sumner Bell III, MD, provides care at Gastroenterology Ltd. of Virginia Beach (Va.), a division of Tidewater Gastroenterology. He is also a professor of clinical internal medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Va. He is a past president of the EVMS and currently serves as secretary-treasurer of the American Gastroenterological Association.

Dr. Bell is board-certified and he has practiced gastroenterology in southeastern Virginia for more than 20 years. He has received numerous awards, including the distinguished alumnus award of the Portsmouth Schools Foundation in Virginia.

Dr. Bell earned his medical degree at Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. He completed his internal medicine residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia and a fellowship in gastroenterology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
