Physician practice owners: 6 trends in the next 5 years

When asked about their plans in the next five years, physician practice owners reported the following, according to Physicians Practice’s 2014 Physician Compensation Survey:

•    Continue as I am — 50.5 percent
•    Retire — 12.1 percent
•    Become employed by a larger health system — 11.7 percent
•    Seek a partnership/group opportunity like an accountable care organization — 9.5 percent
•    Transition to a direct-pay, concierge or hybrid-concierge practice — 8.3 percent
•    Close/sell my practice — 7.9 percent

The survey includes responses from 1,338 physicians.
