GI physician to know: Dr. David Rubin of University of Chicago Medicine

David T. Rubin, MD, is the Joseph B. Kirsner Professor of Medicine; section chief, gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition; and co-director, Digestive Diseases Center at University of Chicago Medicine.

He is a fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association, American College of Gastroenterology and American College of Physicians. Additionally, he is a senior faculty scholar in the University of Chicago Medicine Bucksbaum Institute for Clinical Excellence, established to enhance the communication skills of doctors and an associate faculty member at the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics.

Dr. Rubin is the editor of a leading textbook on inflammatory bowel disease and an author or co-author of 150 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and invited commentary. He focuses on inflammatory bowel disease, virtual colonoscopy, genetic testing, and colon cancer prevention and detection. Over the course of his career, he has earned numerous accolades, including the Governors Award for Excellence in Clinical Research in 2003 and 2013 from the American College of Gastroenterology. He is an associate editor for Digestive Diseases & Sciences and Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Dr. Rubin earned his medical degree at University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine, where he completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowships in gastroenterology and clinical medical ethics.
