Medicare and other insurance companies have not agreed to cover laser-performed cataract surgeries, because the non-laser method for performing the procedure is uncomplicated up to 97 percent of the time, according to the report.
However, physicians from the surgery centers say the technology allows for greater precision in the surgeries, improves patient vision more quickly and advocate for its continued use in the development of the procedure, according to the report.
