The new center will be located in South Texas Medical Center in San Antonio and treat patients who cannot be best served in a “traditional” setting, such as those with a dental phobia, autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, head and spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, hypertension, muscular dystrophy, sickle cell anemia, renal disease and transplant patients and patients undergoing chemotherapy, according to the report.
The surgery center will include a staff of physicians, nurses and anesthesiologists. The 6,500 square-foot facility will feature three pre-op beds, three post-op beds, two operating rooms and two dental procedure rooms, according to the report.
The new dental surgery center should be completed by summer 2010.
