From Follower to Leader: 5 Tips for Success

Taking on a leadership role isn’t a natural step for everyone. Here are five tips to guide those moving from follower to leader, adapted from Rob Asghar, a management consultant of 30 years, in Forbes article:

1. Identify important goals, morals and personal attributes that create a personal compass for the job.

2. When proposing ideas, say it with confidence, or don’t say it at all.

3. When things go wrong, don’t be afraid to admit the issue and look to the future.

4. Don’t be crushed by criticism. Someone will always disagree.

5. Use your natural empathy to stay tuned in to those under your direction.
