1. Set realistic expectations from day one. Not doing so can set employees up for disappointment and disengagement from the start.

3. Manage your brand. Employees want to know that their workplace is one with a great reputation, according to the LinkedIn 2014 Talent Trends Survey.

4. Trust your employees — and show them this is the case. Give employees goals, don’t micromanage and respect employee autonomy in the journey to results.
