1. The patient is identified with a blue bracelet marked “difficult-to-intubate,” and wears this bracelet for the duration of his or her hospitalization.
2. The DTI notification is placed in the “allergy” section of the patient’s electronic health record to ensure that a notification will appear whenever the patient enters a new facility.
3. A standardized “difficult airway cart” is present throughout each facility for situations when a patient is found to have a difficult airway, which includes the necessary equipment for emergency intubation situations.
