Regent Surgical Health CEO Appointed to the Board of Physician Hospitals of America

Tom Mallon, CEO and founder of Regent Surgical Health, a developer of surgery centers and physician-owned hospitals across the country, has been appointed to a three-year term to the board of directors of Physician Hospitals of America — a trade association that offers support, advocacy and education services to physician-owned hospitals across the country, according to a Regent news release.

Physician Hospitals of America includes more than 265 existing hospitals and about 70 hospitals under development, according to the release.

“I look forward to working with PHA to determine ways in which we can continue to improve healthcare for physicians and their patients,” Mr. Mallon said in the release. “With the healthcare reform bill proposing the elimination of physician-owned hospitals, it is a critical time to let the public know about the benefits that physician-owned hospitals deliver to patients and their families across the nation.”

Mr. Mallon started Regent Surgical Health in 2001. The company currently has an ownership stake in two physician-owned hospitals — The Medical Center at Elizabeth Place in Dayton, Ohio, and The Surgical Hospital of Munster (Ind.).
