The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has announced that it will be willing to grant hardship exemptions to physicians that do not meet meaningful use due to software vendors that are slow in providing stage 2 MU-compliant products, according to a Medscape report.

The American Medical Association, American Hospital Association along with other groups sent a letter to CMS requesting a deadline extension for MU compliance. The letter also included mention of slow-moving EHR vendors.

Though CMS does not intend to delay the deadline for stage 2 MU, it is prepared to provide flexibility with hardship exemptions.
