Here are seven tips to prepare surgery centers for a Joint Commission survey.
1. Select the staff members that will greet the surveyor upon arrival. Ask them to identify the surveyor by a picture ID badge.
2. Create a list of surgery center leaders that should be notified when the surveyor arrives, complete with their contact information.
3. Prepare a base location for the surveyor that includes Internet access, a desk and electrical outlet.
4. Choose someone at the ASC who will be responsible for validation of the survey.
5. Review the Readiness Guide and Accreditation Program- Specific Document lists. Take any necessary steps and gather all relevant documents.
6. Select staff members that will serve as surveyor escorts.
7. If applicable, select a staff member that will assist the surveyor with a review of electronic health records.
