6 Hospitals & Health Systems Planning or Building Surgery Centers

New England Baptist Hospital and Shields Healthcare Group have partnered to open the $25 million New England Baptist Outpatient Care Center in Dedham, Mass. The outpatient center focuses on providing orthopedic services.

Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Neb., has broken ground on a $77.4 million surgery center, which is expected to take three and half years to reach completion. The hospital’s physicians donated $4.3 million to the project and an anonymous donor pledged to match donations up to $20 million.

Wentworth-Douglass Health System has broken ground on its Wentworth Surgical Center in Somersworth, N.H. The surgery center is a joint venture between Wentworth-Douglass a group of physicians.

In March, Metro Health filed an application for a certificate of need for a $13.8 million surgery center in Grand Rapids, Mich., and earned approval from the Michigan Department of Community Health on Aug. 20.

Pennsylvania-based Washington Health System intends to break ground on a women’s health surgery center in South Strabane Township, Pa., this month.

Sinai Health System, based in Chicago, has received a $4 million donation from businessman Harry Seigle for the creation of the Seigle Outpatient Center. The facility will be located in the Chicago neighborhood of Lawndale.
