• Using nonabsorbable sutures for skin closure
• Using clippers instead of razors
• Using 2 percent ChloraPrep for skin disinfection before incision
After these interventions, 4.9 percent of patients had an SSI, compared with 16 percent of patients who had an SSI before the interventions were implemented.
