For the Best Hospitals 2013-2014 list, more than 1,570 facilities were evaluated and rated according to reputation among surveyed specialists, patient safety rates, patient volume and nurse staffing.
Cleveland Clinic took second place. Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles rounded out the top five.
Mayo Clinic also ranked as the top hospital for gynecology, diabetes and endocrinology, nephrology and pulmonology.
