During the 2013 Digestive Disease Week meeting, Douglas K. Rex, MD, director of endoscopy at Indiana University Hospital and professor of medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, presented the findings of a study comparing colon capsule endoscopy with optical colonoscopy, according to a Gastroenterology & Endoscopy News report.

The study concluded that while colon capsule endoscopy is a viable option for patients that are not candidates for optical colonoscopy, it has not replaced colonoscopy as the gold standard.
