Standardized clinical assessment and management plans are an alternative to clinical practice guidelines that reduce practice variability while allowing for physicians to adapt practices when appropriate, according to a study in Health Affairs.
The authors examine the ability of SCAMPs to reduce clinical variation and improve quality without the drawbacks of clinical practice guidelines, such as physicians’ perceived loss of autonomy and the limitations of clinical studies.
