Study: Virtual Colonoscopy Use Supported Despite Lack of Reimbursement

Despite the lack of reimbursement, virtual colonoscopies could be a beneficial option alongside the regularly offered optical colonoscopy, according to a study from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

CMS has not provided reimbursement for the computed tomography colonoscopy, a virtual colonoscopy, since 2009. Virtual colonoscopies average from $400 to $800, while optical colonoscopies can cost $1,500 to $3,000.
