The legislation, Senate Bill 1115, which is sponsored by Sen. Nancy Barto (R), could help patients decide whether to allow a provider to bill their insurance company or to pay cash for a procedure. If patients pay cash, they would be responsible for either billing their own insurer or putting costs toward their deductible, according to the report.
The bill is also supported by orthopedic surgeon Eric Novack, MD, who says the legislation would help promote transparency and cut down on frustrations for patients trying to make educated price decisions.
