Recruitment is being spearheaded by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society and Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange. They are looking for large payors to participate in initial testing, providers and their heath information management vendors to participate in testing scenarios and sponsors to fund testing.
Once testing begins in June, health systems will submit 100 test cases with documentation and ICD-9 codes. Trained coders will assign updated ICD-10 codes and give feedback on the level of documentation provided, according to the report. The ICD-10 coded test claims will then be sent to clearinghouses and payors to analyze and validate.
An ICD-10 Playbook will be created from the testing to share best practices and lessons learned with other healthcare providers.
