AHIP: New York, Texas Have Highest Out-of-Network Medicare Bills

A report by America’s Health Insurance Plans found New York and Texas have the highest out-of-network Medicare charges in the country, according to Healthcare Daily.

Twelve of the 24 highest charges are in New York and five are in Texas. In Texas, subsequent hospital care is charged $9,471, compared with a Medicare fee of $100, and a tendon sheath incision is charged $39,450, compared with Medicare’s $547.

However, the American Medical Association called the report’s methodology misleading because it only focuses on a handful of examples out of billions of medical bills filed annually.
