HRET will improve surgical care by implementing a surgical safety checklist across the nation and adapting the Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program to improve ambulatory surgery safety.

To improve patient care in the primary care setting, HRET will develop a training kit based on the Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety — a program developed by AHRQ and the Department of Defense Patient Safety Program. The kit will include the new TeamSTEPPS primary care office module, which is designed to train healthcare providers to work in teams to enhance safety.
