The AMA and several other medical associations sent a letter to Marilyn Tavenner, acting administrator of CMS.
According to the letter, physicians attempting to transition to ICD-10 run the risk of not complying with “e-prescribing, EHR meaningful use, and the Physician Quality Reporting System and value-based modifier programs.” According to the AMA, those physicians would then face financial penalties for non-compliance.
The letter called on CMS to stop the implementation of ICD-10 and instead find an “appropriate replacement” for ICD-9.
