CMS Releases Updated Locale Specific Anesthesia Conversion Rate

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services revised the locale specific Medicare Anesthesia Conversion Factors for 2013 after the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 — passed to avert the “fiscal cliff” — called for a 0 percent sustainable growth rate update for this year, according to the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

The new unadjusted conversion factor for services from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 will be $21.92, instead of the previously figured $15.93.

Alaska has the highest conversion factor of $29.76, and Nebraska has the lowest with $20.31.
