Anesthesiologists Key to Hospital Efficiency, Profits

Effective partnerships between anesthesia departments and hospitals will improve physician communication and accountability, which directly correlates with health system profits and quality of care, according to Health Leaders Media.

Up to 70 percent of hospital revenues are directly linked to the operating room, and any delays or scheduling inefficiencies can cut down on profits. Hospitals are beginning to use anesthesia programs to improve coordination with patients and reduce delays.

These initiatives include having anesthesiology leaders coordinate scheduling changes so they can make sure the OR is being used and empty suites are reduced.
