AGA: Pathology Hit With Large Deduction From 2013 Physician Fee Schedule

The American Gastroenterological Association has analyzed Medicare’s 2013 physician fee schedule and determined pathology was hit with a large reduction, a concern to practices that own pathology labs, according to an AGA news item.

AGA noted the following: “CMS lowered the technical component of the surgical pathology code 88305 by 52 percent, although it raised the professional component by two percent beginning Jan. 1. This change also alters the global payment for this code, which will decrease by 33 percent as a result of this revaluation.”
