The guidelines were published in the Journal of the American College of Radiology and detail a process for working with low back pain patients. The guidelines recommend steps for the initial visit and categorizing patients based on their pain to assist them with appropriate treatment.
The guidelines were designed to assist physicians in clinical decision making and decrease inappropriate imaging utilization, steroid use and invasive procedures.
