UTMC acknowledged the error and suspended its transplant program soon after. Two nurses have already been suspended as a result of the botched transplant. The third employee, Edwin Hall, administrator of surgical services, is the third to be suspended with pay.

The hospital has paid a specialist at Baylor All Saints Medical Center at Fort Worth to review and make recommendations regarding UTMC’s transplant program. Meanwhile, the United Network for Organ Sharing and state and federal officials are investigating the incident.
