Vanderbilt University Medical Center Names Vice Chair for Anesthesia Research

Vanderbilt University Medical Center has named Edward Sherwood, MD, PhD, vice chair for research in the department of anesthesiology.

Dr. Sherwood will oversee all of the department’s investigational activities in his new role. He previously served as vice chair for research and chair of the department of anesthesiology at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Prior to that, he was professor in the department of microbiology and immunology and director of the MD/PhD combined degree program.

Dr. Sherwood received his medical degree from the University of Chicago and his PhD in Physiology from Tulane University in New Orleans, La. He completed his anesthesiology residency at Northwestern University in Chicago and an internal medicine internship at the University of Chicago.
