Survey: Fewer Physicians Say EHR Benefits Outweigh Costs

Fewer physicians this year believe the benefit of electronic health records outweighs the cost, according to a survey reported in iHealthBeat.

In a 2012 study by athenahealth and Sermo, 60 percent of physicians said that the patient care benefits of EHRs outweigh the cost of adoption, while 40 percent did not believe this to be true. In a 2011 survey, more physicians (68 percent) felt that EHR patient benefits justified implementation.

Approximately 500 physicians were surveyed for both studies.
